Does anyone eat at Danny's Diner?

Jesseve Mar 26, 2008 07:47 AM

After reading some good reviews, here and elsewhere, I went to Danny's Diner last night and had a great meal that was made less-great by the cringing feeling you get from being the only people in a restaurant. It was a Tuesday night, but from 6:30-7:30pm not another soul entered the diner.
In any case, my corned beef hash and pancakes were as excellent (and as cheap!) as advertised, and the fish in my boyfriend's fish and chips was perfectly fried and gigantic for the price. The fries were not as crispy as I'd like - but I'm not a steak fries person.
So, was this an off-night? Is is full for breakfast or on weekends? Or is this great place doomed?

I think it's very good (I reviewed it positively in The Phoenix's On the Cheap feature), but have only been at breakfast and lunch, when it is often packed. Only niggle was that the kitchen can be slow; I agree the hash and the pancakes are terrific.

I eat at Danny's for breakfast and lunch regularly, and as noted, it's very busy then. It's almost always deserted at night though.

I go there for lunch occasionally. I'm typically pretty happy with it.

One dish I didn't care for was the American chop suey.

They're never very busy for dinner - i think most of the locals who do dinner there (myself included sometimes) just call ahead pick it up and go.

Weekend mornings are packed - and while somewhat slow if you get to chatting w/ any f the staff there (esp Danny) they're very nice.

the omelets are massive and good any time of day. definitely can be stretched over 2 full meals. Their mexican omelet is my fav

Just there last week for a takeout side of corned beef hash. It was excellent and the the people were very nice. I was there around 10:30 on a weekday and it was empty, but most places are at that time.
