anyone know where to get live crawfish in NYC? trying to do a Louisiana crawfish/shrimp boil. THANK!
I'd be interested too - though when I asked at Citarella about it a couple of weeks ago, they said that crayfish aren't in season right now.
They are definitely in season in the Gulf states. Companies down there are shipping them daily. I would just prefer to buy them in person.
For what it is worth, I was at The Lobster Place in Chelsea Market today and asked them for you, and they looked at me as if I had three heads, and seemed to have no idea what a crayfish was.
MMRuth - I found them! Wild Edibles was able to get me 15 pounds of live crawfish. We boild them up last weekend. Crawfish, head-on shrimp, corn, potatoes, it was great.
Great news - I can't remember what dish I wanted to make - I think something from Frank Stitt's Southern Table. How much notice did they need to get them for you? (Though I'm sure I won't need 15 pounds!)
Mara's Homemade on 6th street in the city has a crawfish boil. I have not had it but have had many other things there and they were good.
Good call on Mara's. I've often walked by there and have looked in many a times. They claim to have crawfish boils and I'm interested in checking it out at some point.
