Sacramento - Hoi Cin report

Based on what I read on this board, we went to Hoi Cin tonight for dinner.

It's a bit of a haul from downtown Sacramento, but it's worth it. Out US 50 to Watt or the one after it (started with a B, I think).

We ordered:

Wor Wonton Soup - terrific. Wontons with shrimp and pork were best I've had. Squid was tender. Broth was really good. I would order this every time I visit Hoi Cin.

Veggie Egg Rolls - very good. Fresh, crisp, tasty. Good dipping sauce. I would order this again.

Salt & Pepper Prawns - not good. Reasonably fresh shrimp, properly fried, but bland. I would not order this again.

Lettuce Seafood Wraps - good, but not great. The seafood filling was crunchy (water chestnuts) and fresh, but not particularly flavorful. I would not order this again.

Veggies in Garlic Sauce - great. The sauce was terrific. The veggies were very fresh and tender-crisp perfect. I would order this again.

Black Pepper Beef Chow Fun - great. The beef was tender and flavorful, the sauce good, the noodles were done right. I would order this again.

The service was friendly and good. The atmosphere is Strip Mall ++, not bad, not terrific, but frankly, I like it like that. I don't like fancy-schmancy places where I'm not comfortable bringing my kids to dine.

Roberto from this board and my husband and I have eaten dim sum there. We enjoyed it very much and I thought it was worrth the long drive (for us) out there. Too bad it isn't better known.

Thanks for the report. This is one of our standby places. They are cursed with a terrible location, but the food has always been very good.
