hey guys i'm looking for a quick rec on a good mexican place with stellar margaritas for tonight. i live near Belmont and Ashland and am a huge fan of Agave's mararitas and cuisine but want something a little less pricey within a couple mile of me.

Fernando's on Lincoln Avenue just north of Roscoe has decent Mexican food and some pretty tasty margaritas! The Mexican Chicken soup is outstanding! The fajitas and carne asada are pretty good too. The food is far superior to it's sister restaurant in the Viagra triangle/Blue Agave.

Also try Taberna Tapatio on Ashland & Roscoe. Decent small plates Mexican and decent margaritas. I like the mini sopes, tamales, garlic shrimp, and more.

Ooops! scratch Platiyo off of my list...it's now closed. Hmm, I wonder what's going in it's place?

I second El Tapatio. I've enjoyed everything I've had on the menu, and it's cheap. Good margaritas too!

Actually, I was referring to the small plates bar accross the street on the same side of Ashland. It's called Taberna Tapatio owned by the same family as El Tapatio. I prefer Taberna Tapatio.

I passed in front of it today and realized that I had confused the two. Never been to Taberna, it always struck me more like a night club atmosphere. Maybe I'll have to stop in and check it out.

Adobo Grill (North and Wells) has great margaritas. I'm not a huge fan of their entrees, but the guac and most of the other appetizers are good.

A little off the beaten path is a fantastic mexican place called Maiz in Humbolt Park. Absolutely stellar food. Very very fresh. It was described to me as Mexico City style. Most importantly, they have the best margaritas I've had in the city (next to Frontera/Topolobamba). Strong, without the 'mix' feel of a lot of the margaritas I've had here in the city. Highly recommended.

Best of luck,
