needs a place that caters in LA

looking for a great Hawaiian place that caters in LA for a luau. Prefer SF Valley or westside location but will go to south bay if need be. From Honolulu, so no imitations!

Here's a link to some places.

We've used Debbies in Gardena a few times for events of 500 people. They've been around for a while. You tell them what you want and how many you want to serve-they know how to make all the standard luau fare. All the catered luaus I've been to in this town are the real deal.

You want a caterer or suggestion to take out and pick up on your own?

actally either. We live in Woodland Hills so would rather have it catered. I don't want to drive from Gardena to Woodland Hills with lau lau's and poi, just in case there is an auto accident. Now that would make news!

Probably will not help you, but might give you an idea, or two. Wife did a lu`au for my 50th in Denver. She found a Polynesian group that did it all, and they were located in Denver. I'd guess that the Polynesian community is fairly active in SF, but have no contact numbers. In my case, the dancers were mostly recent award winners of hula competitions. The chef was from the North Shore, O`ahu, and the entire event was catered - beautifully.

I'd head to Google and also do a post to the LA board for recs. If Denver has a great Polynesian caterer, then LA must have 3!

Wish I had some telephone numbers for you, but I do not.

Don't know when your event is, but you might check out some of the local upcoming Hawaiian events in the LA area and get a lead on some places from people in the know and maybe some entertainment too.

That was exactly what my wife did to locate a Hawaiian caterer in Denver. Her work paid dividends. Our club had a few recs., but she uncovered a gold mine of talent, regarding all aspects of a lu`au. Matter of fact, all the folk, who made mine and the club's (about a month later) agreed that my wife's event was head and shoulder above the other - and they had a larger budget, than did she.

There has got to be a Polynesian Cultural Center (of sorts) in LA. Heck, even Phoenix has two big Polynesian festivals per year.

Good luck in your endeavors and please post your findings and how it all goes, so whenever someone in LA has a similar req., we can steer them to your thread.

            Aloha,
            Hunt
