Help finding great take out in Northern O.C.

pasoguy Mar 24, 2008 08:15 AM

I'll be in the La Palma area next week doing small group meetings without time to go out for a nice sit down meal. It's not my idea idea! Can anyone suggest any places for good Indian, Asian, Deli, Mexican, Bar-B-Q, or Thai. I will need to find both lunch and dinner.

There's Katella Deli in Los Alamitos, there's Johnny Reb's and Tulsa Rib Company in Orange, there's Senor Baja and El Taco Nazo in Bellflower, La Habra or Norwalk, more Indian places than you can shake a stick at in Artesia (just west on the 91). Thai Nakorn in Stanton is not far from La Palma and is the best Thai food in OC.

Hey Das Ubegeek, Thanks so much. I'll check out a few of them.

La Palma is close to Cypress, home of Cafe Hiro. I just went there for a couple appetizers the other day. My favorite appetizer was a special that day - seared tuna (Ahi or Albacore I think) in cubes with cubed buffalo mozarella resting on shredded daikon and drizzled with a miso/ponzu dressing. It was so good (and reasonable at $8) that I almost ordered another one to go.

Search on Cafe Hiro and read other people's reviews. Like Thai Nakorn, Cafe Hiro is universally liked on CH.

My top choice would be Zankou chicken in Anaheim, not too far from LaPalma. Friggin' awesome Armenian rotisserie chicken & other goodies, in case you didn't already know.

A few miles north of La Palma is Artesia's "Little India" along Pioneer Blvd. Little India Grill is good for takeout. For more sitdown-ish, The India Restaurant is good.

Also not too far is Portillo's for beef sandwiches, sausage sandwiches (or both in one if you order the combo sandwich, but only if your arteries can handle it), salads & tasty goods. They even have a drive through.

        Portillo's Hot Dogs
8390 La Palma Ave, Buena Park, CA 90620

        Little India Grill
18383 Pioneer Blvd, Artesia, CA 90701

        Zankou Chicken
        2424 W Ball Rd, Anaheim, CA 92804

        India Restaurant
17824 Pioneer Blvd, Artesia, CA 90701

Forgot to add, aside from chains, there's really not much available in La Palma, which is why most replies will refer to neighboring cities. My friends/family in LaPalma always go outside of the city to eat.

Some of Uber's picks seem like plenty of travel if time is tight (Orange, Bellflower). But Thai Nakorn is awesome... as is Cafe Hiro (never had anything takeout there). Portillo's is good, artery-clogging chow.

Not far from La Palma is Buena Park -- try Golden Nights for great Middle Eastern fare.

You might call Park Ave. in Stanton-- they might be able to serve you well.

Shenai Cuisine of India (west edge of Anaheim) has decent Indian and a huge kitchen for bigger orders.

Dominic's in Cypress is a decent Italian family-owned joint. Awesome breadsticks. If in teh area (and you are) it's a good bet.

Orange IS a bit far, but Bellflower's only the other side of the 605/91 interchange from La Palma. Closest Senor Baja is corner of Norwalk Blvd and Pioneer, just a 5-10 minute drive from central La Palma (Walker and La Palma). Closest El Taco Nazo (oh, those shrimp tacos!) is on Alondra between the 605 and Woodruff, maybe a 15-minute drive.

Buena Park has some pretty good Korean places -- but Korean's not a cuisine that really lends itself to takeout.

For quick, cheap, tasty hawaiian plate lunch grub - (a block south from Cafe Hiro). Check their website - they have a take out menu and usually have daily specials. Call in your order to save time.

There's always Costco (2-3 bocks south) - pizza and hot dogs!

              The Loft Hawaiian Restaurant
              5950 Corporate Ave
              Cypress, CA
              Hours: 11:00am - 9:00 pm

I knew you'd find this website!!

I get a hankering for Costco hot dogs (the pizza, not so much) but the nearest Costco to our office is Garden Grove and it's such a pain in the @$#% to get there and park.

Is there decent Hawaiian plate lunch near Disneyland? I know there's a place on Bristol and Memory Lane, but I've never been because the lure of Juan Pollo's potato salad is irresistible.

Aloha BBQ is pretty meh there, you're probably better off with Juan Pollo anyway. Or drive a few blocks down Bristol to Super Antojitos at 17th

Maybe after that horrible construction is done and traffic on Bristol returns to normal.

Sorry, I haven't tried any places out that way. Check out this website - there are a couple of places listed in Anaheim.

Me loves the Sango. Solid homey Japanese/sushi for cheap. Never have to beg/ask for water cups, wasabi, to go boxes, chop stix, etc, as it's all self serve, which is a nice touch. The Bento Box is one of the best deals around town...IMO of course. My wife always gets the calamari salad. The sukiyaki bowl was just so-so.
