Afternoon appertisers - 4th St./17th Ave. Calgary

We will be entertaining a friend from Toronto on Tuesday afternoon. Need recommendations for a place that is open between 3:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M. for wine and appertisers in the 4th Street/17th Avenue SW area of Calgary. Downtown would also work if we can get parking.

Thanks for the Cilantro recommendation. Have been there a few times and am plesed to learn that it is open in the afternoon.

If you're set on that area, I'd suggest the Joyce on 4th Irish Pub. It's at the corner of 4 St and 24 Ave SW - across from Earl's Tin Palace. The wine list isn't huge, but there is a small selection and though the food isn't spectacular, it's probably a step up from a typical pub. Plus, I know they're open between lunch and dinner.

whoa, we have a winner! Looks like Cilantro is open 11-10, inclusive, and it's a lovely place steps from that intersection.

Cilantro would be my pick. They have a nice little bar in the back. And if it is double digit weather, maybe they will open their patio. Wouldn't you like to show that to your Toronto friend :)

hmmmm.... 3-5? I would suggest Raw Bar but they're closed 2-5... Ship and Anchor is open, I'm pretty sure, but "wine"? Not so much... same with Bob the Fish... most places with wine lists will be closed between lunches and dinners and that goes double for downtown proper.

I'd go to a coffeehouse instead but that's me.
