hound help! sweet potato crisis!

  • 7

Insane weekend...turkey in the oven. Realized I am down to no oven space because that big bastard is taking up my entire oven. Men types want baked sweet potatoes with butter and cinnamon sugar. Fantastic. HOWEVER....no oven to roast.

Can I start them in the microwave and finish them off in the oven while my tom rests? I also have roasted asparagus and loaves of honey oat bread to toss in to warm!

  1. You can nuke them the last few minutes prior to service. I don't like them as well as baked, but in a pinch they're ok.....

I often start sweet as well as baked potatoes in the nukeleator before throwing them in the oven at home just to save some time. If you have a cast iron grill for the stove top and your asparagus are thin. do them on the stove.

    2. You can start them off in the microwave and then "roast" then in the oven when the bird is out. I make "baked" sweet potatoes in the microwave all the time.

      1. WE make microwaved "baked" sweet potatoes all the time. Wash well, prick all over with a sharp knife so they don't explode and put in micro on paper towels. I do 4 minutes on one side and 4 on the other then test with a knife or fork. Depends on your microwave and the size of the potatoes.

        1. I can keep you out of the oven entirely... Nuke em til soft, then crisp up the skins in the toaster!

          1. Do you have access to a grill? There's no room for individual sweet potatoes, along the side of the turkey?

            1. Sorry, I have a no-nuke kitchen. But I often steam or pressure-cook my sweet taters. Men don't object to the mashed purée flavored with bourbon.
