Kitchenette on Chambers St - Horrid!!

  • 1

Went here for brunch recently - we live in Tribeca, and it's an occasional spot for us. After this tome, though, we vowed never again!

Here is what went down: Service was really slow and seemingly clueless - after an eternity we flagged down a busboy to send for our waitress. Finally got our order in, and then the abysmal manager/owner/whoever that obnoxious blonde woman is, came over and barked at us to move tables. My sister and I are both pregnant, so it's not so easy to hop up and move around. We would have been happy to, though, I get it when they need a table to accommodate bigger or smaller parties. (Also, we were right next to the wait station, with a huge, nasty overflowing garbage with dozens of flies clustered around it - moving tables wouldn't have been the worst idea.) So we asked - why do we have to move? And she said 'cuz I need you to!". I said, ok, but it might have been nicer if you just asked. And then she YELLED again that she had already asked me and I was "ignoring" her. Which is just so absurd, my husband was there too, and had been paying attention the whole time because he was trying to get the waiter or anyone to ask for water. So my sister and I hoisted ourselves up to move, and this manager-person kept muttering loudly 'I told them, I told them three times, I told them'. And even the wait staff was kind of embarrassed. Now, of course we were starving, but it had become such a humiliating ordeal that we left. And she was still muttering to herself and to others.

Honestly, the place has been going downhill for a couple of years -there's just bad energy, and the food is only passable. They're supposedly well known for their baked goods, but last time we ordered an eclair it was so hard it made a loud sound when you tapped it on the plate - I'd say at least four few days old. Felt so good to leave for good!!

  1. I was there a couple of weeks ago. While my experience wasn't as bad as yours, I agree that the food was passable at best. I think you're right _ it's gone downhill.
