Need Playa Del Carmen help
Going with friends in a few weeks and have read most of the older posts. We're a great eating group, and really want to hit all the can't miss experiences in the 7 days we're there. We'll be staying at the Playa Maya. Any help is much appreciated.
The Playa Maya is a nice, central location on the beach, however landlocked between Los Pelicanos and Las Alhambras. All 3 have passable lunch and beverage service. La Tarraya, on the beach at 2nd st, (200 meters toward the ferry dock) has the cheapest and good fresh fish, plus good beverages, in the sand and shade of lots of palm trees. La Pirata, 2 blocks north just your side of the Blue Parrot, is good as well. A better beach scene is at Mamitas, 28th st to the beach club.
For dinners, the usual suspects are all walking distance; Oasis, Babes, Jaguar, Yaxche.
Follow up with specific requests.
Definitely fish tacos at El Oasis. The fish or shrimp are fried, served in soft warm corn tortillas with onion and cilantro and I think cabbage. Their hot sauce it pretty hot, even for me. But it isn't necessary.
We went on two tours while there. The first one was arranged here and was great:
Lots of good restaurant tips there as well.
The second we arranged thought the hotel and was awful.
