Baking supplies in the Triangle

I'm looking for red and/or orange nonpariels to decorate a cake. I've checked my usual suspects and have been told that those colors are only available around X-mas/Valentines/Halloween. Huh?

Short of having to go to mail order does anyone have any suggestions for a reasonably comprehensive baking supply store in the area that would carry what I thought was a standard product? I'm willing to drive a little. It's still probably cheaper than paying shipping.

Thanks.

Hey RC! A Southern Season in Chapel Hill has a fairly extensive cake decorating aisle... have you gone there recently?

(AC Moore and Michaels have Wilton supplies, but I am sure you know that!)

I've read on other boards that a place called The NC Paper Company or maybe the Clayton Paper Company in Clayton has a lot of cake decorating supplies, but I haven't been there to check yet.

A Southern Season does have an extensive selection of sprinkles.

Besides Michael's & AC Moore, JoAnns also carries the Wilton line.

Thanks. I mean to try Southern Season if they're open tomorrow. I tried to look up the Clayton store but I couldn't find an on-line yellow pages listing under either name. jkw, do you happen to have any further information on them?

NC Paper Company is at 114 W. Main St. Clayton. Here is an old article on it: http://www.claytonnews-star.com/news/...

I've found Kitchenworks, also at University Mall in Chapel Hill, to be even better than A Southern Season for supplies.

Thanks for the recs. I thought I'd be in CH this past weekend but wasn't. I'll try to make it this weekend. That should be a lot more convenient than Clayton.

Give Not Just Paper a call. They are located in Durham. They carry all sorts of party supplies and may have what you need. And if they do it gives you the perfect excuse to drop into Federal for lunch or dinner as they are practically next door.

Many thanks. Southern Season had just what I needed (that, and another $50 worth of things I didn't know I needed but just had to have). Kitchenworks had a nice selection of pans and hardware but not much in terms of the edible decorating components.

Now I just need to justify my investment.
