South Beach

We will be in South Beach for 3 nights. Would appreciate the 3 "best" fun restaurants in the area. Something with good food and great ambience. Price no object and all types of food except Indian.

Thanks in advance.

    1. Fun restaurants:

The Forge (not in South Beach but short cab ride in Mid Beach)
      Nikki Beach

All of the above turn into 'nightclubs' after about midnight. Tantra actually plays 70s soft porn on giant screen plasma TVs.

All have good food. Not the best in South Beach but certainly very good. All are alot of fun.

If you can, splurge and take a limo to Fort Lauderdale and go to Cafe Martorano. Not only some of the best food you'll ever eat and one of the best restaurants in South Florida, but a really fun place.

DJ spins fantastic music and they play gangster movies on huge plasma TVs. As the night goes on, the music gets more upbeat and the crowd more rowdy.

Plan on paying $$$$ but the food and experience is so totally worth it.

They don't take reservations and a three hour wait on weekends isn't uncommon. It is that good.

I disagree strongly with eating at all the above restaurants in miami except for the forge. They are not good. Cafe Martorano is 40 miles away.

        1. re: tpigeon

I've eaten at all recently and have had good meals at all of them.

The OP didn't ask for an exceptional dining experience but the "best fun" restaurants.

The OP also asked for 'something in the area' which I took to mean it didn't have to be in South Beach.

Why don't you add some suggestions instead of ripping mine to pieces?

          1. re: BlueHerons

Asked and answered many times, that's why. It really shouldn't have gone past frod's reply, but since you put those places in, I had to warn against them.

Also, there is in the area and there is a whole other city. I consider something like Michy's or Michaels to be in the area of south beach as it is at least still in miami...

" It really shouldn't have gone past frod's reply..." With all due respect, this is chowhound not frodhound...

                Thank goodness for that.

I do post that list of threads when there's a post that's very similar to previous threads (invariably some version of that old chestnut, "Where should I eat in South Beach that has good food and ambience?"), but that's certainly not intended to foreclose further discussion. It is, perhaps, a subtle tweak to the poster to maybe do a little research first, perhaps focus their query a bit, maybe familiarize themselves with that "search this board" link up there ...

But here's a good example of where someone's responded to the poster's inquiry with recs that are directly responsive to something arguably unique about the original post ("fun") and with some different recs.

As for those recs? I have not eaten at any of the places suggested other than the Forge (which is a "fun" place, in a completely over-the-top way, and decent food but overpriced for the quality), but it'd be the first time I'd heard anyone say that Tantra, BED or Nikki Beach had "very good" food. I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm just saying it's not a commonly held opinion.

I can't imagine that Martorano is worth driving 45 minutes and waiting in line for 3 hours, not when you have Macaluso's right here. Again, from what I've heard the food is good, but by no means is it commonly described as "one of the best restaurants in South Florida."

Of course, the purpose of this board isn't to just parrot back the consensus favorites, but if someone suggests an "outlyer" they shouldn't be surprised if someone else disagrees, either.

                1. re: Frodnesor

I agree with you on Martorano - its good food but by no means worth going 45 minutes to... You can find just as good Italian down in South Beach or Miami easily, with better service.

                  1. re: Frodnesor

Tantra, The Forge, Nikki Beach, and BED are certainly not the best restaurants in the Miami area but I have eaten at all four in the last seven months and have had very good food.

The biggest thing is that they are all fun experience restaurants. The later the evening, the louder the music, the rowdier the crowd.

When the OP said 'fun', that is what came to mind.

Overpriced for the quality? Definitely but maybe not for the experience.

To give you an example, I like to go to the Delano pool bar with girlfriends and lounge by the pool and order pitchers of mojitos. They are $95. Are they worth it? No however the atmosphere sure as hell is.

                  2. re: Miami Danny

where did I say it was? I said asked and answered many times. The link he provides should pretty much get you all the info you need.

                  3. re: tpigeon

I agree both Michy's and Michael's Genuine are much better than any I've listed with the exception of Cafe Martorano but I think the atmoshere at the ones I listed are much more 'fun'.

            2. Thanks for all the recs.................didn't mean to start a war of the words. To clarify, I did ask for, FUN, GOOD FOOD AND AMBIENCE.
