Burritos on The Danforth - coming soon

Driving on the Danforth today, near to Pape on the south side I happened to notice a sign announcing a new burrito shop coming soon. Sorry I don't have much in the way of details but thought I would post the discovery for those interested.

  1. Cool... did it look like a fast food place, or a sit down restaurant?

The windows are all papered up at the moment so it's hard to say for sure. The space looks pretty narrow so if I had to guess I'd say takeout.

I was just out for a walk and saw it. Closer to Pape than the Burrito House. I'd say room for a couple of tables but if they want to survive, I'd expect mostly take out. Nothing was posted about an opening date that I could see.

      2. Just drove by it...."Burritos Grande, A Quick Service Mexican Grill". Weird we'd get two in one block (well almost).

        1. Yet another burrito joint? Doesn't excite me, but hey, maybe it will turn out to be something special. Really, all the current burrito joints in town (to me) are submarine sandwich places with flatter bread and more jalapenos offered.

Yeah, i know what you mean. I like burrito boyz, but the The Burrito House is really really uninspired. I think its strange that another place would open up so close to it, though. Its hard to make a go of it East of Pape on the Danforth, and I'd be surprised if both places survive having to go head to head.

Anyhow, I wonder if this is related to Bar Burrito, which also bills itself as a quick service Mexican Grill. If so, ho hum: haven't tried it, but reports on this board are indifferent.

          2. I gave this place a try with an open mind, I wasn't expecting authentic Mexican (or SF Mission), but it was pretty mediocre.
In addition to burritos and quesadillas, they serve tacos... on Old El Paso-style yellow shells. The chips are the same style. The salsa is from a jar, did not see any pico de gallo style fresh cut option. The guacomole was over-blended and tasted of some filler or extender other than avocados... but I've tasted worse.
Service was pleasant though and the end result was edible, just nothing special.
Burrito House across the street is no Chow destination, but it has a greater selection of toppings and fillings, and when we got tacos there they were on a Mexican-style shell. They also have a sign up saying they are carrying some Mexican-style popsicles now, I will have to give them another try (we live very close by).

that's disappointing to hear. I was planning to walk over and try this place. I don't know why people bother to open mediocre places, especially when there is a burrito place across the street. (as you said, it's nothing special either) At least they aren't directly beside each other - that will be the case when Mon Kut Thai opens up their new location just west of Logan Ave, right beside another Thai place!

That would be beside TWO other Thai places.... Bangkok Spoon and Diner's Thai
