Original Pancake House in south Florida?
Hello,
I was wondering if the Original Pancake House in Coral Springs was still opened? I think it may have closed.
I will be in the area in a few weeks and was looking for a good breakfast spot aside from IHOP.
Thanks,
Howard

The one in coral springs I do not recommend it. I went to Original Pancake House this morning and the place was empty only 2 tables occupied. We were 15 min waiting in front desk and after we were in our table we wait 30 min!!!!! for a cup of coffee and 15min for the milk....the food of course took longer.....the waitress Judie was in bad mood. After the bad experience of course I did not add tip, and when I check my bank transactions the "lady" added a false tip by her own....isn’t that illegal? Putting false information in your bill without your consent....Now I wonder if she also stole my credit card info. I am reporting this because I want people be aware of this thief working at Original PHouse in Coral Springs FL.

That practice is, I am sure an isolated incident and that employee needs to be prosecuted. However if you are able to go to the locations on Federal hwy in Ft Lauderdale or in Aventura you will not be disappointed. these are the flagship properties for that franchise company. I used to Manage the one in Ft. Lauderdale years ago. I no longer work for the company and have no stake in them. Just great food and good experience if it is managed well. Give it another try. The signature Apple Pancake is worth a visit.

The one on University Drive in Coral Springs closed some time ago to reopen on Atlantic Blvd. where Jimmys used to be. I am not sure if they've opened at this new location yet.

It's all over South Florida. I haven't been. Can you tell me if it's any good and how it compares with other diner breakfast spots?
Here's the cities/areas they're located in South Florida:

On a scale of 1 - 10, maybe a 5. We've been to some non-chain breakfast places (Ed & Ollies in Boynton or Ellie's in Delray for example) that are much worse. On the other hand, it's not in the same league as our current favorite, the Main Street Diner (5600 W Atlantic Blvd, Margate.)
By the way, after reading your article I'm desperate to try El Rey de Pescado. We really need to carve out some time this Saturday.

It was called King Fisher from the Broward-Palm Beach New Times (http://snipurl.com/22p2i
)It's about a little Peruvian place at the Ft Lauderdale Swap Shop called El Rey de Pescado and it sounds really good.

The scale shouldn't change based on being a chain. On a scale of 1-10, the best food should be a 10, regardless of whether it's a chain or a single standalone location.
The Walker Brothers locations of the Original Pancake House have an unusually high level of quality for that chain. And they are indeed a 10 IMHO, with breakfast food better than any other restaurant in the Chicago area, including single-location breakfast specialty restaurants (of which we have many, some excellent, some not so good).
Non-Walker Brothers locations of the Original Pancake House I have tried in other parts of the country vary, maybe anywhere from 4 to 8. By comparison, based on their breakfast food, I would rate Bob Evans 1, Denny's and IHOP 3 to 4, and Cracker Barrel 6 to 7.

re: mialebven
I've been to numerous locations of the Original Pancake House, including those in the Chicago suburbs branded as Walker Brothers* as well as non-Walker Brothers locations around Chicago, and other locations in Michigan, Ohio, California, Indiana, and Georgia - but not any locations in Florida.
They are indeed a big step above other pancake houses, in terms of food quality. Their apple pancake is a huge, puffed-up, cinnamony wonder, absolutely delicious. I also love their Dutch Baby, which uses the same batter but without the apples and cinnamon. You can see photos of both of these at www.originalpancakehouse.com/phm_specialties2.html
I also enjoy their omelets, crepes, pancakes (LOVE the Swedish pancakes), waffles, etc. Their coffee is excellent, their orange juice is fresh squeezed (which may not be all that unusual in Florida the way it is elsewhere), etc.
It's a really good place; I seek it out when I travel because I know it's better than the other breakfast chains.
*Walker Brothers is the only franchisee which the Original Pancake House permits to use their name in addition to that of the overall chain. www.walkerbrosoph.com

The Coral Springs location is still listed on the chain's website at www.originalpancakehouse.com If you want to be double-sure, you can try calling them at 954-255-8080.
(I love their apple pancake!)
