The future doesn't look so good for either branch of Murky Coffee; the Post is reporting that even if they get the tax issues in DC resolved, they're also being evicted from that location for failure to pay their rent, and they're $20k behind on tax payments at the Arlington location:

I don't have much sympathy for the owner. I do have sympathy for the employees. It was a nice place. Their espressos were a bit rough and tumble, but among the best in the area. Try SOVA on H Street. Hopefully the storefront will host yet another Coffee Shop. Hopefully the employees will find new jobs. I have fond memories of Roasters on the Hill circa 1990.

They have pretty different vibes. SOVA is more a hipster place with a lot of seating (hidden upstairs and in the back). They make solid espressos and espresso drinks. Sidamo is also pretty good. They owner is very nice.

Owner Nick Cho has addressed many questions on Murky's website. Apparently the VA location should be OK.
The hot chocolate is quite good too.

We've removed some posts that were solely about Murky's tax and financial problems. While knowing that Murky's is closed and may not reopen is useful information for this board, discussion of the reasons behind it is off-topic. Please keep replies centered on alternatives now that Murky's is closed.
