Speaking of Quincy--Chipotle coming to town?

I read somewhere that Chipotle was planning to open in Quincy. Any ideas where? Maybe the former Henry's Rootbeer stand?

While I don't profess to be a burrito connoiseur (if there is such a thing), I do like that they try to use sustainable practices and naturally raised meats. I think it would be great to have this option when in need of a quick lunch.

  1. Hi,

Yes, they will be opening "sometime in the spring", at the former Henry's Root Beer location.

I was sort of a fan of Henry's; I'm sorry they closed down so quickly. I wonder what happened?

Sort of a weird location but I'll be happy to see them there, basically across the street from the horrid La Paloma.

      Any chance they'll serve cervesa?

Every Chipotle I've ever seen open, both here and in Texas, serves beer.... eventually. Since it's a relatively small part of their business (I assume), they tend to open and secure the liquor license many months later.

It's a bad location -- right before a major traffic light on Newport Ave. Zoots and Citizens Bank were there briefly before (both of which have since moved into the Stop & Shop across the street).

That being said, I like the idea of naturally raised meats. I'll have to give it a shot.

Henry's was gross, however the root beer was very good. Also in a bad location. I can't imagine State Street employees wanting to go to a place that caters more toward teenagers. Even the North Quincy High kids didn't frequent that place.

The space is pretty small for a Chipotle. Guess they'll have to cater mainly to the takeout crowd. I would love for anything other than another chain, but considering it's about a 5 minute walk away for me, I'll have to try it.

          2. It's too bad that we are losing a local root beer.

I am glad that someone picked up the space, and it is across from a decent Stop & Shop. The discount place next to Marshalls has good canned or jarred sauerkraut from time to time, so if in the area, there are a couple of spots to check out, and the prices are right.

Another Quincy spot to check out, thanks.

I think the original Henry's location remains in Taunton.

I believe you are right. I stopped in to get take-out root beer several months ago and they told me only the Taunton location had it. On a brighter note, a friend had a root beer float at the little Dairy Freeze on Adams Street over the weekend, so Spring weather cannot be too far behind!

Dairy Freeze is solid. I've only had the soft serve ice cream and the hot dogs.

Sadly, that Stop and Shop has gone so far downhill that I have decided to shop at Shaws instead.

It used to be a great store.

                1. re: C. Hamster

Agreed, grocery shopping has become more difficult.

I pick up staples at that Stop and Shop, and things like free range eggs; I find the yolks are tastier.

I go to the Fruit Center at the Milton Marketplace for produce. Their fruits and vegetables are much better, and prices are comparable.

Kam Man has nice prices on basics like spring onions and ginger.

This area could easily support a Trader Joes.

                    Hi,

You do know that there's a Trader Joe's in Hanover, at the Hanover Mall? It's only a 15 minute drive.

                    1. re: chowfamily

I'm sure we have passed each other a million times in the store! Add Super 88 to that list.

There was a petition movement recently to put a TJ's in on Morrissey Blvd. but I have no idea what happened.

Hanover is way more than 15 minutes much of the time, actually. :-(

                      1. re: C. Hamster

Very true, it would be quicker to get to Boylston St from this area, but then theres the parking thing. I too heard about the possibility of a TJ's on Morrissey in the area where Burger King used to be that is currently under construction.

There's been talk about a new marketplace in that location for a few years now.
