Apple Pie in Center City Philly

swf36d Mar 20, 2008 02:56 PM

A few years ago I was shopping with a friend when we passed this little shop with pies in the window that had to be about 10 inches high. I was told they were especially known for their pie. For the life of me, I can't remember the name of the place, or even what street it was on. All I can remember is that it was somewhere in the vicinity of Pine St, since we were shopping at Halloween, the jewelry store.
Can anyone help me out?

You are thinking of More Than Just Ice Cream, which has since moved to around 11th and Locust. They make their apple pies in turkey roasting pans, so they are huge. When you order the apple pie a la mode you get a piece about the size of your head. It is also very good pie and good ice cream. Thank you.

agreeing w/ BotJ - it sounds like you're thinking of More Than Just Ice Cream. Although it's been on Locust for a while now.
Never had the apple pie. It's definitely in the get-one-order, split-with-a-friend category.

Unfortunately, the apple pies at MTJIC look much better than they taste.

There used to be a Metropolitan Bakery on the south side of Pine St., in the area of Antiques Row. I can't recall seeing them turn out pies, but it's certainly possible. (I'm partial to their danish, when I'm not trying to eat responsibly.)
