Sushi- Days to Eat?
Because of our new interest in sushi, my husband and I have been trying a number of L.A. sushi bars. Are there preferable days of the week for eating sushi in restaurants? It occurs to me that the fish might not be as fresh on the weekends as it is during the week when the fish market is open. Could that explain why some sushi bars are closed on the weekends?
A sushi chef recently advised me that Monday-Friday is when the fish is bought (b/c the fish markets are not open on wkends). Thus, he said Sunday is the worst day - b/c it's Friday's fish. Not sure if that is true, but he said he went to 4 diff't markets - diff't ones get diff't fish in each day, so he seems like a good source.
Thanks for the input. I have been reluctant to try new (to us) sushi bars on Sundays for precisely that reason. We went to the Festival of Books at UCLA yesterday and drove over to Sasabune on Sawtelle only to find that it was closed. Because the other sushi bars on the street are unknown to us, we opted for dinner at 2117. There are certainly some other interesting-looking Japanese restaurants there. After reading the Blue Marlin review, I'm ready to go back and give that a try.
