Any New York style pizza near Porter Ranch?

sparklegem Mar 20, 2008 04:18 AM

We just moved to Porter Ranch and wondered where to find the best pizza. We like thin, not soggy, New York style pizza. Is there any around here? We would drive to find the best, but a delivery option would be nice, too.

Certainly not the best by any means, but we find ordering Zpizza (near Whole Foods) cooked well done helps.

I think Z pizza is the best in the area, although I've found that their large pizzas tend to get soggy in the middle, I've taken to only ordering the medium size and they don't seem to have that problem.

Tried the pizza at Ameci's once, not as good as Z pizza IMO. But the cold subs at Ameci's are really good.

LA's Best at DeSoto & Lassen delivers to Porter Ranch, it is a former outpost of D'Amore's so the pizza is pretty much the same as D'Amore's. Worth a try if you like that style.

In the Valley, you want to try Mulberry Street Pizza in Encino, and Joe Peep's in Sherman Oaks/Studio City.

Not much "New York" around, but GOOD pizza in the SFV can be had at Barone's, Red Balls, Michelli's, Wolfgang puck express at Gelson's (cali style) Caoti cafe,

I hear over the hill in the city, people like Nicco's and Joes as close to NY pizza

My favorite in that part of town is in either Chatsworth or Granada Hills called:

        818/772-1294 on Mason

        Report back,

Yeah I was wondering about them.....I went into the one in Chatsworth one time and it seemed pretty seedy, like old dirty plates on the tables and stuff, and the young kids working there were playing video games and not paying much attention. So I kind of wrote them off. Might have to give it another try.

We live in Chatsworth and get delivery from Vincenzo's when we're in a pizza mood. The place does a brisk takeout/delivery business. Not too many people eat there, except on the weekends/evenings sometimes when teams from the park walk across the street to celebrate.

As others have posted, Vincenzo's in the Trader Joe's shopping area at Devonshire and Mason is very good for take out/delivery. Also, D'Amore Pizza Connection on Winnetka (I think the cross street is Sherman Way) is also good, but I've been disappointed the last few times I've ordered from them. We also like to order delivery from Guido's, also at Devonshire and Mason in the same shopping center as Carrows (fyi, in the same shopping center I just tried the new chicken place that replaced KFC and it was delicious. Had the roasted chicken with garlic sauce, rice, and hummus).

Although they are too far for delivery, the two best places in the west end of the valley are Mulberry's on Ventura Blvd. in Encino and Red Ball Pizza on Topanga across from the Topanga mall in Canoga Park/Woodland Hills.

Thank you so much for all the recommendations. I can't wait to try them all!!

We just moved and are super sick with the flu; so it really helps to know what is out there since we have not yet had the chance to explore.

Today we tried Pho So 1 and Top Thai, recommended on other posts. Both were great! I think that tomorrow we will order pizzas, if I still to ill to make them.

Thank you for all the help!

The cheese slices at Greco's in Sherman Oaks reminds me very much of New York style pizza. This wouldn't work for a delivery option to Porter Ranch, but check it out, if you have a chance to drive out there.

Just to report back, we ordered from Z Pizza. I liked that they offered organic sauce and they are very close to our house. Unfortunately, it was not the pizza that we were hoping for. Still looking for that thin crust, New York pizza.

I really enjoy the pizza from Red Devil Pizza on Devonshire in Granada Hills. Those little mini GARLIC rolls are to die for. http://www.rdpizza.com/

Did you ask them for "thin" crust? I notice that one of my local pizza joints (Johnnies NY Pizza) does a much, much thinner crust when I specifically say I want "thin" crust. You might call and see if they do will do that for you.

When we ordered from Z Pizza, I asked for a super thin, crisp crust.
