Town Barefoot Contessa films in?

javaandjazz Mar 19, 2008 01:44 PM

I live in CT and was wondering if it's worth it to get on the Bridgeport Port Jeff ferry and drive across for a day trip? Are there many speciality food shops out that way? What town does she film in? It looks interesting. Thanks, Richie

I think that in the back of her latest book she lists places she likes to shop at. It might be worth a look if you're plannning a trip.

She's in the Hamptons (I think East Hampton, although I'm not sure). It is a lovely area, and actually very charming and small town feeling if you go in the spring or fall and avoid the summertime rigamarole.

I agree - it's beautiful in that area (this coming from someone who was v. anti-Hamptons for many years - until I actually went out there!). My favorite town is actually Sag Harbor, with Southampton coming in next - I think East Hampton is awfully glitzy, though as Megiac says, I'm pretty sure that is where Ms. Garten lives. To the OP - if you want more ideas about where to eat/food shops etc., I'll reply if you post on the Tristate board ....

The Barefoot Contessa shop is in East Hampton. IMO, Montauk is the loveliest of the Hamptons- much less spoiled that the others. EH is a lot like Greenwich, or Westport. Montauk is more Wilton.

Montauk has the better beaches, too. My advice would be to get takeout at Barefoot in EH, and eat it on the beach at the very end of the island. There are quite a few shops in EH, and you'll pay through the nose for them. Barefoot Contessa is one of the nicest.

It's a two hour drive just from Port Jeff to the Hamptons, though, so go early!

If I'm remembering correctly (haven't been out the the Hamptons in 2 years) and reading the website correctly, the Barefoot Contessa bakery/take out shop in East Hampton doesn't exist anymore. It does look like their corporate offices are still there.

I'm fairly certain that the show is taped at their home in East Hampton. I've seen that she shops at the Citarella's on Montauk Highway and the Seafood Shop (closer to Bridgehampton if I'm remembering correctly).

Right - the store is closed. Montauk is beautiful - just a little farther than we usually like to drive for the weekend, even in the winter. That seafood shop is wonderful - the one I'm thinking of is in Wainscott.

I hope that store with the BEST. FRIED. CHICKEN. EVER. in the Hamptons is still open in Montauk....if so, do they make the righteous chicken off season?

Don't know that place. Fried chicken, like pizza, is something I don't eat much of - but the best.fried.chicken.ever - that I'd have to try. Do you remember the name at all?

Herb's Market. All I had to do was google fried chicken Montauk!
