What is going on with this mango???

chloe103 Mar 19, 2008 11:04 AM

I have eaten many, but never encountered anything like this. Please take a look at the pic, and tell me what ails this seemingly troubled mango. Is this something to worry about, or merely a cosmetic imperfection?

(It you can't see in the pic, there are these little air pockets, sort of disc-like in shape, scattered through the fruit.)

I've seen this before, and think it's just an imperfection and not really anything to be concerned about. Are the pockets lined with or filled with hard white fibers, sort of like a mini pit? I wonder if this is the mango version of the navel orange...

Yes, the pockets are lined with whitish fibres. They aren't particularly hard, but there are clearly distinct from the surrounding fruit flesh.
