That Time Again--Seeking Organic Whole Wheat Matzos
2 or 3 years ago I was able to find these in San Francisco (Whole Foods), but no luck last year.
I've seen spelt--but some of my books specify spelt as being not "kosher for Passover."
One would think with the growing awareness of and interest in organics' and whole grains' importance in both the planet's and personal health, it would become easier to find whole-grain, organic matzos, but ....
Anyone know anything??
I have no idea about organic, but in the New York area whole wheat matzah is readily available in both machine-made as well as handmade shmura. As far as spelt goes, I'm not sure what books you are reading, but the second mishna of Mesechet Challah specifies that one who eats a kezayit of matzah made out of spelt (as well as wheat, oats, rye, or barley) is yotzei his obligation to eat matzah on Pesach, so spelt is ABSOLUTELY kosher for Pesach. Now of course you cannot use regular spelt flour you'd find on the shelf during the rest of the year, but here in NY, spelt matzah is easy to find.
there was a company that made it; I contacted them this year, and they said they are again not baking it, We are disapointed b/c it was so good
there are some on Kosher.com listed as all natural. Also there are gluten free matzos there as well.
