ISO of ginger ice cream.

Any idea of where I can get this? My husband had some at a Japanese restaurant and loved it, but I can't seem to find it at any Japanese grocery store. I've checked both Nijiya and Mitsuwa in West LA, Mitsuwa in downtown LA, and on a lark, also looked for it at the Galleria Market in K-town. Where can I find this elusive ice cream?

Mashti Malone's ginger rosewater is my favorite. There are two Mashti's, on in Hollywood and one in glandale. Whole Foods also sells it in the Ice Cream freezer.

If you can at all wangle it, go to the original Mashti Malone's in Hollywood. The ice cream is made there and transported by truck to Glendale. Sometimes the trucks' refrigeration isn't working and the ice cream ends up melting and re-freezing -- crystal city at Glendale, especially in the heat of the summer.

I think I recently had some at the new, double-decker Whole Foods Market in Pasadena.

They have it regularly at Chabuya, the noodle place on Sawtelle.

As for purchasing it, you might try the 99 Ranch Market in San Gabriel. I've seen it there on occasion.

A few years ago I bought some ginger ice cream at Fosselman's. It was in their freezer of pre-packed ice cream, and they didn't appear to be scooping it fresh. Nonetheless it was really good.

Fosselman's does still sell the ginger ice cream. I bought some last month, and it's quite good (lots of pieces of candied ginger). I think it costs either $6.50 or $6.75 for a pre-packed half-gallon.

Glacier has it from time to time, and it's full of real ginger pieces. You'd have to call to find out if they have an upcoming-flavor-calendar.....or they might check the freezer to see if they have any pints available.
