Vegan near Echo Park tonight -- how's Cru?

Hi. I'm looking for a vegan or vegan-friendly restaurant for my house-guests tonight. Some of them have allergies to eggs and gluten (i.e., wheat). They also can't be near incense or cigarette smoke.

We'd prefer a restaurant with low-to moderate prices and near Echo Park (i.e., Echo Park, Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Atwater, Eagle Rock, etc.) I think we called the "Vegan House" last year and they didn't seem to know about gluten.

I did find some threads on vegan food, such as

My friends are interested in Cru -- how expensive is it?

Thanks

Haven't been yet, but have heard good things about Elf Cafe.

I tried it first time Sunday night. I very much enjoyed it. Most of the dishes I tried even people who might be wary of Raw Food would enjoy it. They do have a few cooked vegan dishes, but the menu is predominantly raw. I loved the pizza, the bruschettas and the meza platter in particular (wow, the cucumbers on the meza platter were amazing) and all the salad greens that came with various entrees were dressed beautifully. I did not have dessert but a friend told me the chocolate dessert and the banana split were terrific. Give it a try!

Cru sounds great (though I think it's at the top end of our price range), but I just realized it's closed Tuesday nights. Has anyone tried the Elf Cafe? What are some other alternatives for tonight?

        Thanks!

Cafe Flore, which is just west of Cru has wonderful vegan fare and the prices are incredibly reasonable. Get sorbet at Pazzo Gelato for dessert.

By LACC, if that's not too far, is Pure Luck (Heliotrope & Melrose). I'm not vegan, but the "carnitas" torta is really good. What really draws me there are the great beers on tap and that Scoops is across the street.

2nd! Pure Luck's prices and portions cannot be beat. I love the carnitas, the pesto, the fries ... yum yum. Very laid back atmosphere.

I would definitely recommend Elf. There are tons of discussions about the restaurant on here, so i recommend doing a search for it...
