Hi Ya'll-
packed my winter coat, ready to head North-
I am looking for some great places to eat near the Wyndham hotel downtown- hubby is working and I am shopping. I love Tapas, thai, all Asian food- anything creative, too. Oh, pizza and hot dogs/burgers, please and thank you! I would like to stay close to the hotel, hubby is working a convention and will be off and on shifts.

Thanks, so very much!

The Wyndham is at 633 N. St. Clair, right off Michigan Avenue. The Capital Grille ( www.thecapitalgrille.com ) is a good steakhouse inside the hotel building.

For Italian, Coco Pazzo Cafe is right across the street from the hotel. www.cocopazzocafe.com

For the ultimate in creativity, Tru ( www.trurestaurant.com ) and Les Nomades ( www.lesnomades.net ) are two splurge-type high-end restaurants nearby.

For tapas, Emilio's Sol y Nieve ( www.emiliostapas.com/solynieve.htm ) is very close by.

For burgers, two recommendations. Boston Blackie's is very good and the location on Grand is very close. www.bostonblackies.com And the Billy Goat on the lower level of Michigan Avenue, where Saturday Night Live originated ""Cheezborger! Cheezborger! No fries, cheeps! No Pepsi, Coke!?" www.billygoattavern.com

For Chicago-style deep-dish pizza, the location of Gino's East on Superior is very close. www.ginoseast.com If you prefer double-crust "stuffed" pizza, Giordano's on Rush Street isn't far, either. www.giordanos.com Either way, call ahead with your pizza order to avoid having to wait 30-45 minutes for your pizza to bake.

For Armenian, Sayat Nova is nearby. www.sayatnovachicago.com

All of the above are within a few blocks of the hotel. Only slightly further are Frontera Grill and Topolobampo for Mexican ( www.rickbayless.com/restaurants ) and Vong's Thai Kitchen ( www.vongsthaikitchen.com ) for Thai food.

One more suggestion, just a few blocks away. Fox and Obel is an upscale gourmet grocery store, just a wonderful place to shop for prepared foods as well as basic ingredients. They also have a cafe in the rear that's open all day for a meal or a snack. www.fox-obel.com
