Dinner in Minneapolis

I'll be in Minneapolis with my husband on Wednesday evening and am looking for a nice place for dinner. Looking for someplace pleasant and relaxing, (since we'll be out without children for a change!) but not pretentious. I'm a vegetarian, he's not. We both like lots of flavor in our food. Will report back!

Is there a specific part of town you're interested in?

Without more info, I'd suggest Saffron in the warehouse district downtown. Board fave 112 Eatery is across the street too - I'd recommend them as well but after looking at the current menus it looks like you'll have a wider selection of vegetarian choices at Saffron.

Saffron also has a nice selection of drinks as well.

Spoonriver. Relaxed, just pretentious enough to be professional, vegetarian friendly, great food.

thanks for the suggestions already. We will be staying in downtown Mpls - so looking to dine downtown. Favoriate cusines are SEAsian and Italian - lots of fresh ingredients, and spicy is a plus!

Jasmine26 may be a good option. 26th and Nicollet (Eat Street)...but beware, if you are truly vegetatian many dishes will contain yummy yummy fish-sauce. I'd recommend Azia, but you are limited to the chinatown and nouveau menu with mock duck or tofu for the most part and it's pretentious. Our last meal @ Peninsula was awesome, and with their menu, they must have some vegetarian options. There are several other SE Asian spots on Eat street as well.

For Italian near downtown you either get pretentious but outstanding (Cucina) or, well, Buca...which isn't relaxing unless you find carnivals relaxing.

if you want to stay downtown, 112 and saffron are both great recs as Bob s. says. if you go to saffron *do not pass up* their fabulous desserts! another extremely veg-friendly fine dining restaurant with great atmosphere (very tranquil) is cafe brenda. i think that this restaurant got off of many local hounds' radar because it was perceived as mainly veg for so long-- but it actually has great locally sourced meat entrees. hounds who haven't looked at cafe brenda's menu for a while should check it out now!

I like Sapor Cafe - it might suit both your tastes (the mushroom wellington was fantastic).
