Hi all - Does anyone have any opinions (pro- or con-) on any of the several authentic-looking Mexican places on E. Fletcher near USF? They all look like total dives but (1) everything on E. Fletcher near USF looks like a total dive, and (2) almost all of the truly good Mexican food I've ever had has been at dives, so I am not ruling these places out. It sure would be great to be able to get a decent taco for lunch when I'm at work sometimes, but I've never heard anyone say anything about any of these places.

My favorite Mexican food I've found in Tampa is at Mi Mexico and at the lunch counter at the back of Acapulco Grocery, both in West Tampa. I'd love to find something similar near campus.

El Pueblo Chico is across from Lai Thai and has decent sopes. Not as good as La Cabana del Tio in CLW, but will do since it's close. I believe they are closed on Tuesdays. There's one across the street from Ho Ho Choy that I had walked into once and was struck by an unpleasant odor- didn't eat there but maybe it's improved. I'm still curious about the one in the strip center where the used book store used to be. Sorry that I don't know the names of them- sometimes that's how it goes with dives.

There is one but I don't know the name, it's on Fletcher in the same plaza as the Daddy Gills restaurant, right next to it. So if you're driving from 275 towards I-75 it will be on your left, it's a new plaza, it's after 15th street but before 22nd. It's a little grocer and inside they have cafeteria style ordering. I haven't actually eaten there because they don't have much vegetarian options but my boyfriend is from central america and he loves it, and i have other friends that really like it too.
