Hi I am a culinary student from Singapore and I will be visiting Chicago for the first time this April. Does anyone have recommendations for kitchen supply stores where I can get Chef jackets and pants and knife bags? Preferably not too far from the Hyde Park area? thanks in advance!

I get my knives sharpened at the Northwestern Cutlery Supply Company www.nwcutlery.com. It's in the river west area, not near Hyde Park, but they definitely have what you're looking for.

The Edward Don Outlet is gone. I would suggest taking a look at the restaurant supply stores on W. Madison such as Gold Brothers at 1140 W. Madison.

Thank you everyone for ur reponses and suggestions...so far Northwestern Cutlery seems to suit my needs the best and I absolutely cannot wait to get there! I'll no doubt my dragging my very bored girlfriend along for many fun filled hours (fun for me not for her..shes just there to make sure I don't end up selling a kidney to pay for a full set of MAC knives)

Called Toguri to ask for a quote and they are more expensive than NW cutlery..I went down to NW cutlery yesterday and it was like entering heaven...i swear i could almost hear angels singing. I would have spent a great deal longer there if the gf wasnt nagging me to hurry up. Ended up buying 3 MAC knives. People who are interested in these knives better get them quick cos the website says the prices are increasing this month.

Also got a copy of A Cooks Guide To Chicago and its going to prove to be an invaluable buy during my month long stay here.
