I'd love to try Vietnamese food in New Orleans. Is this a good spot or would you recommend something else?

It's a good spot. The menu offers a broad sampling of dishes, ranging from noodle bowls to rice platters to pho and more interesting specials (including goat & quail). The staff all speak English, but you should definitely know that it is a cash-only place. Note that the name has no "g" in it.....

They actually take credit cards now. I use my debit there all the time.

Is Tan Ding one of the better Viet places?

          YUP !
I prefer them for anything but Pho.

...and they call themselves Tan Dinh.

pho tau bay on the westbank all the way. jazmine cafe in the riverbend has decent pho and killer bubble teas. the teas are so good i always grab one to go. try green apple. pho tau bay broth has tons of flavor. great rice dishes as well. insanely low prices too.
