upscale dining in the south bay?

i want to take my mother and family to lunch tomorrow, sunday, for her birthday. she lives in palos verdes and doesnt want to travel to far. manhatten beach and long beach are ok though.

can anyone recommend a really nice high quality place to take here?

Perhaps Tracht's in Long Beach? It's tough finding GOOD upscale places in the South Bay.

The decor is not the nicest (think retrofitted coffee shop) but the food at Chez Melange for brunch/lunch is pretty good. Down in Long Beach, there is Lasher's.

This may be too much, but it's super-upscale: the expensive-as-heck Sunday brunch buffet at the fancy restaurant on Donald Trump's golf course in PV, Trump National Golf Club.

Okay, I just went to their website and I didn't see a mention of the buffet, but I did see a lunch menu; here's a link:

It's expensive but the food is above-average (not smashingly good for what they charge), but the view is unbelievably breathtaking and totally worth it.

I just had a wonderful dinner at a fairly new restaurant in long Beach called Michael's on Naples..not sure if they are open for lunch but it was one of the best meals I have had in Long Beach for quite some time...maybe check them out, they are on 2nd street.
