Disaster- Mayan Chocolate ice cream flavor discontinued!

Chocolate lovers - aficionados, connoisseurs, weep - Mayan Chocolate Ice Cream by Haagen Dazs was/is absolutely unique, the only truly valid and historically sensitive chocolate ice cream, and it has been discontinued. Lodge a protest and make an outcry.
Mayan Chocolate, in honor of the Mayan, and to this day, Mexican, use of chocolate and cinnamon in their cuisine combines the essence of these flavors. It has/had the darkest richest chocolate flavor with a touch of cinnamon added. There is a swirl of amazing dark chocolate fudge. Protest, request it and they will bring it back.
It is the only commercial ice cream I have ever bought voluntarily as I am a sorbet person, not an ice cream person, unless I make it myself. If you haven't tasted HD Mayan Chocolate Ice Cream, there are still some containers on the shelves if you are lucky. If not here is an approximation recipe.
Recipe Approximation: Let Ben and Jerry's Chocolate get soft. Mix in some ground cinnamon, Buy or make the best chocolate fudge sauce you know of. It should be reasonably thick. (Nutela is the correct consistency, even if the taste is slightly different). Swirl fudge into the ice cream. Harden off in the freezer. That will be the nearest you can get to Mayan Chocolate. I urge you to try and bring Mayan Chocolate back to the marketplace. In the meantime I will make some chocolate ice cream and try to come up with a recipe for all to share. When you don't have an ingredient you have to adapt.

What is happening to the world!

First Godiva does away with its ice cream self and the nirvana White Chocolate Raspberry Swirl -- sigh -- in the process and now this?

And yet, there are still plenty of Dove faux pints in the stores.

Godiva canceled its entire ice cream line?

        1. re: aynrandgirl

Sadly, I didn't notice its disappearance, but I save pints for special occasions. But yes, it's gone, and the White Chocolate Raspberry Swirl was one of the best things on the planet.

I wonder if they're profiting from having denied us?

White Chocolate Raspberry Swirl was an amazing ice cream. I'm saddened to see it gone.

        3. re: rworange

Yeah, I bought some last time I was there. I hate to say, though, that I don't really like it. But then, I'm not really crazy about the combination of cinnamon and chocolate.

          1. re: rworange

It's almost gone, but there's another 400 cases coming at the end of the month and over 1000 cases coming in April - so if you can't find it in your local store, ask the owner to order more...

          2. Have you tried Palapa Azul Mexican chocolate ice cream? Their flan is very good, too.

            1. I sent an e-mail complaining, asking them to reconsider. I just bought some-I will have to go back to the store & see if there's any left. How sad, it's my favorite.

Nope, none left in my local Stop and Shop. How sad.

              2. Manufacturers should pay me not to like their product. Anything I like will, with 100% certainty, be discontinued. This is really unhappy news.

Indy 67, I have the same effect... and I did love that ice cream... I told everyone about it... apparently the cinnamon / chocolate combo isn't for everyone... which i cannot grasp!!

                2. If you can find Boulder Ice Cream where you live (it's a little Colorado company, but they are apparently in 16 states: http://www.bouldericecream.com/produc...), the Mexican Chocolate ice cream is divine.

                  1. It is still in Harris Teeter.

                    1. Damn this was the only chocolate ice cream I liked!!!!

Anyone know about the supply to Canada??

                      1. Does anyone have a good recipe to make this? I loved Mayan Chocolate. That was short lived!

I never noticed this thread and the icecream is a once-a-year-treat on my diet... but I LOVED IT!!!!!!!! What a terrible shame. It seemed to be the only flavour they make that wasn't sickly-sweet. I adore cinnamon and dark chocolate so I'm very disappointed. :( (on the other hand, I never noticed it was missing yet, so I guess it won't make THAT big a difference to me!)

The thing it tasted most-like to me was my homemade chocolate milkshakes... I always put cinnamon in them. Or else homemade chocolate pudding with cinnamon added. You could even try sprinkling regular chocolate icecream with cinnamon....

                          2. yes, I know that I'm very late w/this post, but here I am anyway. go to the Haagen Dazs website, and email them now! let them know how upsetting (to put it mildly) we find this product discontinuation. if they receive enough support for the product, they will bring it back. it definitely doesn't hurt to try.

I purchased a few tubs just a few months ago at a grocery store in Toronto. Wasn't aware it had been discontinued until this thread was revived.

                            2. I don't know where the rest of the posters in this thread live, but Häagen-Dazs Mayan Chocolate ice cream is currently available where i live in Vancouver, BC, Canada, and is included amongst the list of flavours on the Häagen-Dazs Canada site.

So if you live in Canada, or close to the Canadian border, then don't dispair...it is still available :)
