03/08 Restaurants with Greatest Views: Rocky Point,Carmel
Now THIS is a place with a killer view. Not a halfway or almost- killer view, like highlands inn, but a TRUE killer view,.An indoor chalet restaurant and an outdoor patio/deck. Just above the ocean's edge with rough jagged boulders and outcrops nearby , with an .open view down the rough rocky inletted coastline between carmel and big sur. Surf pounding away .Now that's the amazing view.
The food, however, is just passable. You are paying the owner's real estate tax here, me thinks, and THEN some.......
For $15 you can get a good corned beef sandwich w/ spiced fries, but god forbid you want a grilled chicken sandwich that has not been overcooked to dry cardboard. The coleslaw was actually browned on the edges.so I passed on that. Now, it's possible that the burger and mex.items are good, but i didn't dare try them.
you CAN park in the parking lot and walk out on the walking trails to the unparalleled rocky outcrop viewing spots and trails, though a picnic spot in that all-rocks terrain- might be tricky.I kept thinking to myself, "Wow, wouldn't it be just too good if this place could have its food match the view? " well, where there's life, there's hope.....
Food has been a problem there for a long time. The seduction of the view has brought us back more times than I'd like to admit...kept hoping the food would catch up to the view. A few months ago, we tried again. We ordered the tamales. They were wonderful! I checked with the manager/owner (?) and he said they were homemade and purchased locally. Might want to give them a try IF you do go back.
