So Cupcake (Salt Lake)
Just wanted to post a quick review of a new cupcake place in town called So Cupcake. In the millcreek area on 3939 South and Highland Drive. - across the street from Nielsen's Frozen Custard. It's set off the street, with the store facing south in an odd building that looks like it houses a beer bar on the top floor. But once inside you'll forget about the location and just marvel at the sugary wonders splayed out before you. Man are these good cupcakes! Very similar to what you would find at a CRUMBS or Magnolia Bakeriy in New York, except more reasonably priced and without the lines out the door (or the 5 hour flight!).
They have full size and mini varieties. I think the minis were like 1.75 and the full size were around 2.50. We got a dozen for my mom's birthday and they were a huge hit at the party.
I think I am developing an addiction -- much to the chagrin of my newly hired personal trainer. The key lime & the peanut butter top my list of favs (so far!)
Thanks for posting this review. I am looking for cupcakes for a bridal shower. These are the best tasting I have found, though not the prettiest. The Red Velvet is AWESOME!
I don't want to be mean but I was terribly disappointed. The cupcakes were okay, like decent homemade cupcakes but the flavors weren't very interesting and they weren't beautiful. I was hoping for a sprinkles-esque type of spot but it was just okay to me. I'd rather make a batch of boxed cupcakes for the same price. If you're looking for dessert I'd recommend dolcetti's gelato 100 times over So cupcake.
Thanks for this review. I live in Los Angeles, so I have access to all of the fabulous cupcake shops: Suzie Cakes (my personal fav.), crumbs, sprinkles, etc. I love cupcakes and wanted to get them in lieu of a wedding cake. My husband and I decided to get married in Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah and the search for the perfect cupcake in Salt Lake City began. I tried 6 different places in Salt Lake City, and they were all not very good. I was about to give up and just order a traditional cake, when my maid of honor came upon So Cupcake's adorable website. I quickly contacted them and arranged a tasting for the next time I was in Salt Lake City. They were fantastic and I booked them immediately. They made a bunch of minis (6 different flavors) and one jumbo cupcake for us to cut. They did a fantastic job, Natalie the owner was a pleasure to work with. I have to disagree with "raegun" and say that I would choose So Cupcake over Sprinkles any day - especially the Carrot Cake, so yummy! Attached are some photos of the cupcakes from our big day.
