MSP: SANTORINI GREEK RESTAURANT

We had a lunch and a dinner at Santorini in St. Louis Park recently. The food was okay. The fried calamari was our favorite dish from those that we tried. The lamb chops were pretty good. Service was just so so for each meal. I thought that the food was overpriced, though my SO did not agree with that.

I do enjoy their Sunday brunch- I think it's 14.95 AYCE, and they send out a 10$ off coupon that made it really worthwhile. Last time I went, they had close to a couple of dozen cold salad offerings, which I loved, plus several hot items. Have not been in a few months, so things may have changed.

Santorini's might get demolished? That's interesting. Keep me posted if you hear otherwise.

I have to admit -this is my favorite greek spot besides Gardens of Salonika. I think Santorini's hands down beats It's Greek to Me or even Christos. Best friend (CH as well) had her groom's dinner there- and she spent almost a year in Greece (and spent a good portion of time in Chicago where there are so many ethic spots) and she has told me that this food is the closest it comes to the real deal.

I can't comment on that, except that every time I have been there - I have had great food with fairly good service. The prices might seem a bit high - and I haven't been there in a few months -but considering the higher prices I'm noticing everywhere I go - for a standard entree, I don't see $24 as too high-and if it is lamb, etc. - I expect to pay a bit more.

However, on that note, I'll agree with Mpls Mary in saying that perhaps a better choice are appetizers and some wine in the bar, for happy hour.

Isn't this place to be demolished shortly? At any rate, no great loss in my estimation as the food is entirely unremarkable.

I think the better bang for your buck is a couple glasses of wine with appetizers making certain you get the saganaki. Opa!
