A-1 Roasted garlic, jonesing for a substitute
Greetings to all
Sorry to bother everyone. But at this point I am desperate. Ever since A-1 dropped thier Roasted Garlic flavored Steak sauce (along with most of it companion flavors) in favor of their new "Super Garlic" (which in my opinion tastes like what used to happen when i added garlic powder to my Campbell's soup) I have been tearing my hair out trying to find a substitute sauce that tastes more lor less like my beived A-1RG to no avail. almost every steak sauce I try tastes too sweet or too spicy and the few I have actually like have turned out to be single lonely bottles tucked away on the back shelves of stores, no longer in the stores ordering plan. Does anyone know of a sauce on the market that tastes anything like A1-RG that is STILL BEING PRODUCED?
kraft's website still shows it (the medallion on it says "roasted garlic" and not the "supreme garlic") : http://www.kraftfoods.com/a1/bn/c_sauces/
is this the new one you don't like -- "supreme garlic"?
an alternative, maybe: a-1 on steroids? http://images.google.com/imgres?imgur...
Yeah they still have it listed on the website it just isn't sent to the stores anymore (no I don't get the logic either) And yes it is supreme garlic I dislike. As for the super A-1 the cath there is that i'm not a big fan of a lot of chile in my food and that sauce has the pepper turned up along with the garlic. thanks for the effort anyway
Did the A1-RG have a different flavor profile altogether? Or, did it just taste like A1 with roasted garlic in it? If it's the latter, then buy a bottle of A1, and a head of garlic. Take the hour to roast the garlic, and put it all in blender. Be proactive. Roasting the garlic and using a blender will be about 4 minutes of actual work. Might even be fun to try and reproduce. Sounds like you should at least try if you like it that much. You might even make it better than you remember it!
The proalbem is that the A-1RG did have a different flavor profile than regular A-1each flavor has different (unspecified) flavorings in different ratios. In fact adding roasted garlic puree to regualr A-1 was one of the first things I tried and it didn't taste ANYTHING like it (this was back when I still had a bottle or two in reserve on the shelf so I could compare. A-1 +garlic puree in fact taste like regular A-1 gone lumpy (pust it tends to char so badly when used for cooking that all you can taste is carbon) I aprrecited the concept but it just doesnt work.
