Restaurant recs for adults that want interesting food & teens that will probably eat pizza or grilled cheese

We're taking our 13 & 14 year olds to Manhattan for the first time this weekend...would like to go to a restaurant as described above - sort of upscale is OK, but no tough dress codes. Something unique to NYC would be great...we'll be staying near Times Square but will consider almost anywhere in Manhattan (and we'd like to make a reservation, and I know it's getting late!)

A great pizza place to please the kids later in the weekend would be good too - I heard Lombardi's is good?

Thanks so much!!

  1. Orso is an excellent upscale Italian that also has pizzas. There's no dress requirement, but neat casual would be in order, not t-shirts and sneakers. It should not be difficult to get a reservation if you go after the pre-theater crowd has left.

    1. I think Otto's may be a good place for the family. Has antipasti, pizza, pastas and delicious gelato. My favorites are the antipasti and the gelato. Pizza is not classic NY -- the crust is too thin and cracker like. But it's still decent. Atmosphere is noisy and boisterous. Tons of kids as well. Good wine list for the adults. It's also owned by Mario Batali if you're into that type of thing.
