Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and The Bronx

Eat in & Take out in Bushwick?

So i know about Sapporo Haru, Cheers, Northeast Kingdom (btw over priced and not so great for delivery) and Loco Burrito. I've been bound to those 4 places for the past year when it comes to ordering food for delivery. Everything else seems to be gross lower rung chinese food or bad pizza. THANK THE GODS Robertas just opened up across the street from me! But I'm looking for more!
Does anyone have any fave places for delivery and/or dining in Bushwick town? I'm in the barren food wasteland of the Morgan stop and while I love Roberta's yummy pizzas i'm not going to eat there more than once a week. Please help me break free from my bland food shackles!

    1. Bland food shackles??? I am sick of people that move to Bushwick and complain because they can't get sushi, or find sietan. MOVE BACK TO MANHATTAN!!!!
This is a neighborhood that is primarily Puerto Rican, Dominican and Mexican. You will find great food all around you if you stop expecting to see a French Bistro (I am sure there will be one soon).
Life Cafe - Flushing Ave (they offer take out)
Los Tortilleria Mexicana, Starr Street - Spicy Pork Tortas are to die for.
Mexican Buffet, on Knickerbocker btw. Troutman and Jefferson
Tina's, Corner of Flushing & Wilson -Greasy spoon diner open from 3:30am - 4:00pm, delivery starts at 5:30am
There is/was an Ecuadorian restaurant on Knickerbocker btw Starr/Troutman, and one closer to Flushing Ave. (spacing on the names)
Bakery on corner of Starr/Knickerbocker for sweets and treats. So cheap, and so fresh.
Fontana's II, Knickerbocker - Pizza is not great, but they do a decent chicken parm, and have junior's cheesecake on hand.
      Tony's, Knickerbocker - Pizza
Circo Pastry Shop, Knickerbocker - Italian bakery that's been open for ages. Really great pastries and made to order birthday cakes.
On Wykoff (east of Starr) you will find rotisserie chicken, mofongo, beef stew, rice & beans, beef stew, as well as some diners, delis, fried chicken joints, and pizzerias. Most of them offer delivery, or you can take a nice walk and cut through Maria Hernandez park.

I think that's enough to get you started.

hey don't jump the gun...i never said i didnt like puerto rican or mexican! i LOVE them both! in fact, i'm NOT looking for expensive food, a french bistro or sushi. i'm looking for good yummy delicious food. whether thats from the kitchen of a bodega, someone grilling on the street, a bar, a bistro, a cafe or a hole in the wall joint i dont care. im just looking for delicious food. and i feel like a lot of the food ive encountered is bland.
i'd love to know more about the ecuadorian place! and i'll def try los tortilleria mexicana. i could live off of tacos and tamales alone. i just dont know where to find them.
thank you for your recs i'll definitely check them out!!

p.s. i'm not from manhattan nor will i ever live there. i'm from austin.

              • I've been blown away by how good the food is in this neighborhood.

I highly recommend Cocoyoc, a Mexican tacqueria on Wyckoff between Harman and Greene Aves. (Dekalb L stop.) The BBQ pork (al pastor) a la Mexicana plate, guacamole and pozole (corn chicken soup) are out of this world. They have beer, a good jukebox, and soft lighting. It's definitely worth a trip if they don't deliver to the Morgan stop.

There are two more tacquerias on Wyckoff between Bleecker and Myrtle I've heard are really good but I haven't tried them yet and can't remember their names. (One looks like a grocery but is actually a restaurant.) There's a fancy seafood place down one of these side streets (never tried it), and Wyckoff is full of Dominican rotisserie chicken places that say "Spanish food." They are all good and also serve a tasty Cuban sandwich for $4. I go to El Dorado a lot near Dekalb and Stanhope. There is also a little tiny breakfast joint on Stanhope across from the hospital that looks intriguing. Also many more places to try around Maria Hernandez park. Even the neighborhood Chinese place on Wyckoff between Himrod and Harman serves a decent Kung Pao chicken for $4. It's totally Mandarin style all the way, of course, but the chicken is truly Chinese style and it has lots of vegetables, which I think is a good thing.

                    awesome! thank you SO MUCH!
i can't wait to check some of those places out!

El Dorado had some kick-butt pernil and maduros on my last visit...the Cuban was plenty good, filling and cheap.

why? great suggestions being offered here!

                              • This is an old thread, but there is also Phorum that recently opened on I think Starr and Wilson and Tandem on Troutman, I think between Knickerbocker and Irving. These are both more fancy places for dinner or drinks, night out kind of thing. And in case you do want Sushi...there is a Chinese/Japanese place called Shen Zhou that's decent. The best sushi ever? Of course not, but should satisfy any cravings.
