What to expect from an '88 Bordeaux...
Hello Wine 'Hounds!!
I need some advice and/or wisdom for my impulse purchase: an '88 Beychevelle. I searched this board for an '88, but only saw comments on '82's (which I almost bought for my b-day awhile back but it sold out too fast) or '89's. I bought this wine to celebrate a particular goal, which should be obtained within a couple months, so I will be opening this wine soon (unless I should wait, that's why I am seeking help - the amount of knowledge from the CH wine posters astounds me!!).
Is this a wine to pair with food?
Should I decant?
What are the characteristics and what should I expect from this wine (this will be my first Bordeaux, shameless, I know!!)?
Anything else you think I should know or any comments/advice is appreciated!!
Thanks in advance...

1988 Beychevelle
A Bordeaux Blend Dry Red Table wine from St Julien, Bordeaux, France
Source: Wine Advocate # 85 Feb 1993
Reviewer: Robert Parker
Rating: 84
Maturity: Old
Current (Release) Cost :$79-$152 (23)
Relatively light and lacking concentration, with an under-ripe, green streak to its flavors, the 1988 Beychevelle will age well, but it lacks the depth and ripeness to provide excitement. Anticipated maturity: 1994-2002.
