Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in the SF Bay Area (including Berkeley, Oakland, Napa, Sonoma, Marin, and San Jose)

Near Hilton, Financial District.

Will be staying at the Hilton Financial District for a couple of days. Looking for mid range informal restaurants for a couple of nights, within walking distance. Open to cuisines.

  1. Well, I'm sorry to say that the Hilton corporation calls it the Financial District but it is really straddling the Tenderloin and Union Square; the Financial District itself is actually about ten blocks away. You will want to do searches for Union Square and those surrounds.

You best bets include Canteen, Tadich Grill, Farmer Brown, and Cafe de la Presse.

No this is the other Hilton, on Kearny.

Yeah, the Hilton "Financial District" is the refurbished Holiday Inn Chinatown. Lots and lots of places to go in Chinatown, North Beach and the Jackson Square area, so maybe be a little more specific as to what you have in mind.

I am pretty open. I guess being near North Beach an Italian place would be appropriate.

Oooops - apologies! Being so close to North Beach and Chintatown will open up your possibilities!

I'd consider Rose Pistola for starters...

I haven't been for a few years. Are they good for a weekday dinner? Need reservation?

I'd consider Tadich too. Within walking distance?

Tadich is definitely within walking distance. For close and casual, you could check out Bocadillos, which is right around the corner on Montgomery and Washington.

And you can walk down Jackson to Kokkari (Greek) or on Sacramento to Rubicon.

L'Osteria del Forno is a nice, small, casual Italian place in north Beach.
