Quiet Sunday dinner in Tempe (Phoenix) area

I'd love recommendations for a quiet dinner with colleagues on a Sunday night, in Tempe or the nearby parts of the Phoenix metro area. Would prefer moderately priced ($15 per entree or less), "simple" food (meat and potatoes type things, or perhaps Italian) in a place where we can hear each other talk, preferably not a national chain. (House of Tricks was my first choice, but they're closed Sundays). I normally go for spicy or unusual food, so this is tough for me!

  1. Caffe Boa on Mill might fit the bill...perhaps a bit too expensive, but lovely.

    1. I'd suggest Rula Bula on Mill for good, reasonably-priced meat & potatoes fare, but given that it's an Irish bar and it's the day before St. Patrick's I don't know how quiet it'll be.

Perhaps Classic Italian Pizza in Tempe could work?

      1. How about La Stalla in downtown Chandler? Too far to travel? Some entrees might be above the $15 mark but most pastas are in that range as are the pizzas.

        1. Thanks for the suggestions! I'm leading towards Classic Italian Pizza (I peeked in the window yesterday and it does indeed look "simple!"), does anyone know if they take reservations?

I like Caffe Boa's food, but the atmosphere isn't quite what I'm looking for (I liked their old, tiny place better). The pizza place also seems like a good location as 1 person will be coming into town on US 60, the other on I-10.

I live very close to Classic Italian and have never had a problem getting a table just walking in. They also have tables outside and a bar in case there were a wait. We recently took 2 couples to CIP and they all raved about the food.
