Vegetarian visiting Gatlinburg

I'm going on a trip to Gatlinburg and wanted to try and find someplace to have a casual sit down dinner. I would like to find a non chain restaurant and hopefully would like to try some southern food since I'm from Chicago and like to try local food.

I've looked at many many restaurants in Gatlinburg that people have suggested and have had trouble finding something vegetarian so I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions.

At first I thought the Old Mill since it had a vegetable plate but then many people said all their veggies are cooked with ham.

I would appreciate any help!

  1. This may be difficult. I've been in the area a handful of times due to Arrowmont, so I didn't try too many restaurants. I did look at lots of menus & did a bit of walking in the area. Absolutely nothing comes to mind. But each year there is a new crop of restos opening for the season, so there maybe some new options! If your diet is really clean & you are not interested in non-veg. options I would suggest bringing some backup items from Whole foods, etc. If you are driving down, Knoxville has an Earth Fare on the west side of town which will have whatever you might need. My experiences with Gatlinburg have not been vegetarian friendly. I seem to remember a Fridays or similar which was about the best option. If you eat fish you may have some luck with mountain trout. Oh, If you do dairy, there was a decent small cheese shop/deli, just off the main drag on the east side of the road. It was in a little pedestrian shopping area with winding pathways.
Veg. flavored with meat is very common in the South, and some folks will consider it "vegetarian" (since it is not a hunk of meat!) so ask very specific questions so you are not surprised!
