whats going on with this place?
has no one been yet?
are they even open?
i know they were supposed to be open on the 15th, but there is no sign, no menu posted up, and it looks very closed up and uninviting.›2 Replies-
re: Get In My Belly
I've been multiple times and it's great (love love LOVE the steak tartar roll up appetizer). The menu is posted in the window facing 4th Ave. I think they said that a sign is coming this week? But yes they are open and have been since the 15th.
I know, their front door looks speakeasyish, like you need a password. But I think that also is going to be fixed.

re: girlacross
I just had dinner there tonight ,rally good i loved the appetizer.I had the Kitfo tiklili- beef tartar in berbere seasoning .i loved it if it had a bit of heat it would have been perfect. also Sambusa was very good. I had an assortment of dishes and was very tasty I usually go to Awash the food is a bit different from Awash but the Ghenet is so good.I am already planning to go with friends next week .Service was good but a bit slow in re-filling the water and the decor is very stylish.

re: prcentauri
It is open, but they are only serving apps and drinks while they sort out the final details of opening. Their official opening is Tuesday, April 15th, when you'll be able to order from the full menu.
Although I haven't eaten at the Nolita branch, the food I had last night at the Brooklyn Ghenet was excellent, especially the steak tartar injera roll up appetizer. Mmm, cardamom . . .

re: girlacross
Thanks for the tip, girlacross! My husband and I went last night. They were still just serving appetizers and confirmed the 4/15 full opening. Can't wait. Everything we tried last night was delicious especially the Asa Tiklil, spicy raw tuna wrapped in toasted injera. Sooo good. There are no words. We spoke to the owner and it's one of her signature dishes. If I could have one RIGHT NOW, I would.
It's a nice space and they do have a full bar. Two of the walls were lined with cushioned benches and I counted 1 four top table and 11 two-top tables (that could be pushed together and reconfigured), and a number seats at the bar. We'll definitely go back within the next week to sample their full menu.

Brownstoner confirms it's a branch of NoLIta Ethiopian, Ghenet, opening sometime this month (March 2008). I really like that place and I'm excited they're coming to Brooklyn. Wish it was on Smith St instead of all the way over on 4th, but that's just me being selfish :)
