  1. I thought the salads had a about a pound of salt in them. Sandwiches might be better.

    1. They are a chain....where are you located an we might give you better delis around

Let me expand on what LewisvilleHounder is saying in that Baker Bros, like McAlisters, is a very good chain. Keep that in mind when you visit. If you expect quality to rival the Carnegie or any other famous NYC deli you may be disappointed. Take it on it's own terms. That said, I enjoyed the Kentucky Club, and I've never been disappointed with the soups, either the Texas Chili or the Baked Potato. Both will warm you up quite nicely on a cold day.

Are those suggestions for the best soup thread???

          1. re: LewisvilleHounder

I'm familiar with that thread, and while I'm not certain they are the best, they at least deserve a mention. Thanks for asking.

      2. If you like Corner Bakery, Baker Bros is pretty much along the same lines. Not offensive, but not great. If you do order a sandwich, make sure to ask for dressing on the side or something, they have a tendency to lather the sauce/mayonnaise on.

        1. At best Baker Bros. has delusions of mediocrity. Soups aren't bad, sandwiches can be. There has to be something better in the neighborhood.

Agreed, speyerer. Never, ever, for the love of God, order their spuds as an entree. EVER!

          2. I eat lunch there about every other week. For office stiffs like myself, the half salads are good enough to get you through the day without having any fried content, although I doubt they're "healthy". They taste pretty good too (favorite: santa barbara). It beats a burger day after day. Sandwiches aren't bad either. The ones on egg-spun rolls (whatever that is) are pretty good. ....it can't all be four star.

maybe we should rename this place "mediocre-hound"?

              1. re: luniz

Wouldn't "gruel hound" be more descriptive?
Yes, If there's someplace I can get a really good salad (preferably to go) and be back in the office (Central and NW Hwy) in about an hour, pray tell.

can't help ya man, I work in McKinney. So even if you think you don't have good options, it could be a lot worse!

              2. re: sike101

Sike, I too go to Bakers Bros for lunch with office mates. On a visit about 2 weeks ago, I was informed they no longer did the half salads. Their regular salads are now smaller (and a little less expensive than before). I still found it to be too much food for me. Bummer. I liked the salads there better than the sandwiches.

                1. re: donnaaries

Ate there today, the Greenville Ave spot still has the half salad.

luniz: this is getting to be a long thread for a very mediocre sandwich chain.

                  1. re: sike101

Weird, Preston @ Plano Pkwy location was the one I ate at which no longer offered 1/2 salads.

              3. The problem is that for office stiffs as Sike says, you have to mix in a few salad betwixt the houndish chow of I'd be huge.

                1. waaaaaaay over priced...schlotzsky's still way better...in my opinion

I've been locked in meetings with out of the country consultants and we've had to order in lunch from them all week. I haven't eaten or seen anything from there that is even average, but the boss loves that place and it's his nickle.
