2 babies at a moderately nice restaurant?

My mom is coming up for her 60th birthday, and there are 6 adults and two babies under the age of 1 for dinner. One can sit in a high chair, the other one needs either her car seat at the table on a chair or in her stroller at the table. This will be for a Friday night (we're willing to go earlier to score a table).

I know this is a tall order for a restaurant, because we don't want somewhere that is so noisy we cannot hear each other speak, but also not quiet/romantic because we have a 6 month old and 10 month old with us and don't want to ruin other diners' meals. As far as cuisine goes, Italian, American (classic or new), brasserie-style would be our picks, but really a better restaurant for 2 babies is more important than cuisine. Only cuisines that are out are Indian and Vegetarian.

In terms of how nice, something nicer than along the lines of Rosa Mexicano (as an example), but not 4-star restaurant nice. Any suggestions? A 60th birthday doesn't come around often, and neither does the need to have two little ones out to dinner at once!

The Odeon.... or pretty much anything else in Tribeca. Babies are sacred in that neighborhood.

We've not been to Landmarc, but from everything I've read about it on this board, it sounds as though it might be right for your purposes. I'm not sure, but I think the downtown location may not take reservations while the one in the Time-Warner Center does. Hopefully, Hounds with personal experiences at either or both will chime in with more details and opinions.

Speaking of the TWC, you might also consider Porter House. Another place we've not been to (so many restaurants; so little time), but which is reputed to have good food and is known to be very family-friendly.

Here's wishing your mom a very Happy 60th Birthday and Bon Appetit!

I would recommend Doc Caminos. Decent food, large space and you wont bother any other diners.

Landmarc is indeed family friendly and meets just about all the OP's criteria except that it can get rather loud. You should still be able to hear each other, but the volume is well above a "buzz."
