Marcella Says - carrot gnocchi

Hello,

I'm trying to make carrot gnocchi from 'Marcella Says'.

I don't currently own the book, and have been consulting with copies of the recipe online (not the most reliable source, I know). However, they all call for "1/2 pound carrots, or approx 5-6 medium carrots". I'm wondering if this is a typo, since 5-6 medium carrots is 1 pound or 1/2 kilo in weight.

Does anyone have the book handy, and if so, can you confirm what the original recipe calls for? Or even better, if you've made the gnocchi, which amount did you use, and how did they turn out?

Thanks guys...

I'm going to guess that the carrots that she's referring to aren't the behemouths that most American supermarkets are selling these days. I would stick to the 1/2 pound in weight as the actual measurement to use in your recipe.

As a comparison, you could try weighing 5-6 small carrots and see if you get closer to the desired weight.

Hi Jazzy, It's a good point - what is 'medium'?

I'm not in the States, and my local supermarket sells small, medium and large carrots (labelled like that). The medium ones really ARE medium, and five of them are just under a pound in weight.

I ended up going large, so to speak, and used a pound of carrots, which seemed to work out.

For those considering making the recipe in the future: I added a lot of flavouring because the carrot flavour was a little mild; some cumin and coriander powder, sauteed garlic, a splash of pomegranate molasses. Came out very light. Almost more like a souffle than a gnocchi! I think it would be nice baked in a dish rather than formed into quenelles and poached then baked.
