Burger Joints near Union Square

Going to be in US doing some shopping tonight. I have my own favorite burger spots (Mollys, Royale...) but would love to try some of the Hounders recommendations.
Any top notch burger spots in walking distance from US?

The Smith is another option over on 3rd Ave.

SO we ended up going to Stand. I had the burger with the green peppercorn sauce, wife had the classic and friend had the burger with bacon, egg and cheese. The burgers were good and I didnt mind the puffy bun some folks mentioned. All the burgers came cooked perfectly. We ordered both kinds of fries which were pretty run of the mill. The stand out was the Toasted Marshmallow shake. This is reason to return alone. The burgers were good but no where on the level of Mollys IMO. Thanks for the recs, we enjoyed our meal.

Lamb merguez burger at BLT Burger, 6th ave (Ave of the Americas) between 11th & 12th Sts.

Agreed--the lamb burger is the best one on the menu at BLT Burger. Their beef ones are eh.

If you don't mind the walk, Shake Shack. I second the recs for Stand and Old Town Tavern as well.

Is that Old Town Bar? or Town Tavern?
When I searched google for old town tavern, I got both of the above results. I am coming to NYC next month and am looking for some good burgers

Definitely Old Town Bar. Don't go anywhere near that pit of slime called Town Tavern!

Can't forget Shake Shack, it's a short short walk from the north end of Union Square to Madison Square. They are open until 9 pm.

Old Town Bar on 18th has a good burger and plenty of atmosphere.

Try Stand on 12th. They have an early special and a late special as well.

They have an excellent vegetarian burger as well, for future reference if your dining with a non meat eater.

Stand also has 2 for 1 burgers between 3-6, and happy hour from 6-7, you get a free beer with your burger. Great fries there, too.

I think the prince means Union Square, not United States--haha.

At any rate, Stand and BLT Burger are also close by. I prefer Stand.

I did mean Union Square. I am a tried and true NYer and going to Paragon to get some stuff for a ski trip to Utah I am going on.

I'm going to chime in and third Stand. Onion rings are overrated, though. Stick to fries.

Really? That's good to know - the onion rings "looked good" as they went by me. I'd also recommend the toasted marshmallow shake there. They also have a lot of microbrews on tap.

Love the atmosphere at Old Town, the burger is decent, I don't like the fries from there at all...but the other two make up for it.
