Martha Vineyard

We are going to MV for our 1st year wedding anniversary end of this month. Any good restaurant recommendations? We would like to have a romantic dinner, a place for lobster rolls and fried claims for lunch. A place for drinks by the beach perhaps. A visit to a gourmet market or fruit stands (doubt any are opened the last week of March). We also appreciate any recommendations for spa, sunset criuse and fishing operator. Thanks!

Mocha Mott's in VH for excellent coffee - and free WiFi!

No visit to the Vineyard would be complete, for me, without a visit to Jimmy Sea's in Oak Bluffs for ridiculous quantities of pasta. I've not been there in the off season, though - and I am not certain if they are open.

For great beer and rather good grub, I recommend the Offshore Ale brewery in Oak Bluffs. Their half-chicken was one of my favorite meals during a recent Vineyard visit.

    Enjoy!

Jimmy Sea's may serve ridiculous quantities but it's the quality that is questionable (as is the service).....they became famous only becauxse Pres Clinton dined there....I prefer Pomodoro on the next street over...very good Italian food at fair prices with very good service...last time we were at Jimmy See's we walked out because we sat ignored for about 20 minutes...we went over to Pomodoro and have returned many times thereafter.

Agree with you about Offshore Ale....

And we LOVE Mediterannean over in Vineyard Haven (across from Artcliff Diner)...

I never miss Jimmy Seas when I go to the Vineyard and have never had bad service. However, that could be because I always dine early and get there when they open at 5:00. The lobster fraDiavolo is incredible. Unfortunately, Jimmy Seas is seasonal, and I doubt it will be open in March. Offshore Ale is great in the off season but service gets poor by the end of the summer because they're tired of all the tourists. Love the Mediterranean as well, but I believe that is also seasonal. Give Sharkey's Cantina a try in Oak Bluffs. I'm pretty sure they're year around and I have had some of the best paella I've ever tasted there. Not sure if Pomodoros is open year round, but they do make a pretty decent pizza and it's a comfortable spot. Lastly, I would check to see if Lolas is open. They're on the beach rd between Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. Great southern seafood; love the mussels and the etouffee or any of their pasta dishes. Enjoy!

I've been to all. I really enjoyed Lola's alot. Have to go again this summer - been awhile. The family went without me to MV last year and went to Sharkey's and said it was great. I will try it this year. I hear Balance re-opened. I enjoyed at the top of the "hill" before.

Hi. We own a home out there and have many faves, but you didn't say if you would have a car which will help. For a romantic dinner 3 excellent choices would be Beach Plum Inn (Menemsha), Le Grenier (Vineyard Haven) - BYOB to both- and Catch at the Charlotte Inn in Edgartown.. The Grill on Main, also in Edgartown, has good food at bargain prices. Call before you go to any of these. They are open year round but do take vacations from time to time. We like Soigne in Edgartown for gourmet products, but you won't find any fruit stands open. Most of the better fried clam/lobster roll destinations will be closed too. The Black Dog tavern has a great fry guy though, and if the Art-Cliff is open that may be even better. Both are in Vineyard Haven- have to BYOB. The bar attached to Lure restaurant at the Winnetu Inn is a good spot for drinks with an ocean view, but after dark? No. Enjoy.
