Interesting spot for Saturday lunch, New Haven?

Coming down from Maine for my first grandson's baptism on Easter Eve in a few weeks, and will be taking the parents (with 6 week old) out for lunch one-ish. Don't need a ton of food, but would be interested in a place of quality and charm, not Union League / high end; ethnicity not an issue one way or other (OK, not red sauce Italian): just interesting food, well presented. Thanks for any and all suggestions!

  1. Zinc is great for lunch and very central. Modern interior but good service and very consistent, excellent food.

Doesn't look like Zinc serves lunch on Saturdays.

    2. Bentara would be my choice, great unique food.

I've stopped going to Bentara. The service has deteriorated to unacceptable.

That's unfortunate to hear, I haven't been in a few months, and usually I end up getting take-out.

Ate there this week and reviewed it elswhere (on CH). I thought the service was below par. OK at times but generally mediocre to poor. We had to grab people to get more wine. They seemed understaffed that day, for lunch. We did enjoy the food.

        2. Thali or Scoozi may be good options. I believe they are both on OpenTable

          1. Zinc, Bentara, Thali... Did anyone read the part about NOT high end?

Bella Rosa in Westville does great brunches on the weekend.
Istanbul Cafe offers nice sit down middle eastern
The Rice Pot offers casual/tasty Thai
            Temple Grill has good salad/sandwiches

Bentara is very reasonable for lunch. A big bowl of Mee Curry soup is 8 or 9 dollars.

Thali offers many lunch curry dishes around $10. Scoozi lunch entrees are 10-14$.

              2. Istanbul can be a lot of fun. Great appetizers to share with the table.
