Atlantic City and the Environs

I'll be heading to AC later this month and am wondering where to eat that's not a chain or casino related. Prefer on the inexpensive side. Ethnic and seafood a plus, within 20 miles of AC. Thanks

A great place the locals frequent for breakfast and lunch is Gilchrists on Maryland Ave. Don't let the outside fool you: 461 N Maryland Ave...inexpensive!

Gilchrists in AC has closed, but has opened in Galloway Township -- sounds great.

You might want to try Mexico, good authentic reasonably priced mexican food. It is in AC on Ventnor Ave.

I'm from Philly (so I'm spoiled) and I've had to live down here for the past 5 yrs. I keep hearing about Whitehouse, I've tried them and I just don't see the attraction. WAWA is better.

I have to agree with Tudor. I went to WH last Saturday for lunch. I had the cheese steak and was disappointed. I should have gone to Sac o subs between AC and the parkway north.

I also do not think the WH is 'all that'. I've had business associates from out of town who have heard about this place and always want to try it.
Personally, I've had better hoagies/subs at Wawa.

In Philly, cheesesteak or roast pork; in AC at White House, Italian sub! You have to know what to order where.

Second Whitehouse. Don't let the neighborhood scare ya ;) Best darn sub I ever had in my life. All of the subs they make are good, so you can't go wrong when ordering. Just be ready to order and to the point when you do. It's amazing to watch these guys work.

I third Whitehouse subs. They are really exceptional and there is a lot of great history there too.

Doc's Oyster House on Atlantic Ave. is upscale, great seafood, one of the best wine lists I've seen, but NOT cheap. In Margate, (south of AC) try TOMATOES or STEVE & COOKIES. Again, neither are very inexpensive. I'm afraid there isn't a good restaurant in all of South Jersey. The Borgata has some nice places but they're VERY expensive because it's in the only real casino in AC.
