Chinatown Rehearsal Dinner Venue

I'm looking for a restaurant in Chinatown that can accommodate a decent sized wedding rehearsal dinner. I lived in China for 6 years and my faves (Grand Sichuan, Sichuan Gourmet, Wuliangye) probably aren't big enough and might be too much for some of the guests to handle.

Need someplace that will be a fun environment, with good authentic food (I have a bias toward Sichuan and Hunan) but that can also serve up some toned down fare for the out-of-towners.

Any suggestions?

  1. Hi - It's a few years since you posted that, but I'm getting married this December and we are looking for the exact same thing. I lived in Harbin, and my fiance's family lived all across China as well. How did your search go? Did you find anything that worked?

I have thrown some large birthday parties and such at Golden Unicorn. They are very good at logistics and such. Frankly I think they are best for dim sum but it's a good option. Oriental garden does many chines weddings. They are great for banquets and excellent food, at least on our view.

For an upscale non Chinatown venue look at Mr. Kay's in midtown. Very professional and gracious. Great manager A number of rooms to choose from. Dance floor etc. Great Peking duck, actually. You can also arrange to bring in professional lion dancers as an option. We did that there once and it was all well received.
